What I have Learnt From 2016


I thought I would do this chatty post on what I have learnt this year  - Yes I have learnt things. Sometimes negative events that have happened throughout the year can be difficult to forget, but I'd like to share what I have learnt from these negative events, and how I plan to over come them in 2017. 




Worry less - But it is okay to worry: Starting a new job this year during the busiest time was really difficult, especially working from 8am-10pm for 2 weeks. I know that there are a lot of people out there that do work these hours everyday and I honestly think you are amazing! I tried to really focus on getting things done whilst trying to work as quick as possible which stupidly made me feel quite ill. I have definitely learnt that it is okay if things are not completed and it is not worth getting ill over. Tasks and people can wait and you can only do your best. 


Get out and do different things - But it is okay if this happens in baby steps: I am quite an anxious person and it has been hard for me to go out and do things. I always prefer to stay in but I have been really trying hard to go out and just have a good time. Anyone with anxiety will know that even doing the smallest thing and achieving it is a massive accomplishment and I feel that with this in mind I have accomplished more this year than I thought I would. I am definitely going to try and do lots more in the new year, including visiting new places. 

Live in the moment - I do worry about everything, especially the unknown. However since I have started my meditation programme, I have been feeling so much better. For those of you that do not know about meditation, it does not have to involve sitting in a pose and humming ohm. I have a few apps on my phone including Headspace and Don't Panic which are 10 minute long sessions involving breathing exercises and learning how to control anxiety. Don't think that these meditation apps are quick fixes and that you will be cured. I still get anxious over silly things but I have learnt how to control it which has helped. In 2017 I will definitely continue use these meditation apps and aim to live in the moment.
